The following sequence formats saved as a .txt file are supported by STNext: plain text, FASTA, GENBANK, and EMBL.
There are two ways to import a .txt sequence file to STNext:
- Clicking the Import Sequence button on the My Files > Structures page
- Clicking the Import icon in the Edit Sequence window
Note: Any spaces and numbers at the beginning or end of a line in the imported .txt file will be stripped out when the sequence is uploaded into the session.
Importing a Sequence File on the Structures Page
To import a sequence file:
- Click My Files, and then select Structures.
- On the Structures page, click the Import Sequence button.
To import a structure into a folder, click the folder's ellipsis (...) icon, and then select Import Sequence.
- Click the Browse button in the Import Sequence File window.
- Select the sequence file on your computer, and then click the Open button. Note: Valid file formats are Plain (.txt), EMBL (.embl), GENBANK (.gb), FASTA (.fasta), and SwissProt (.dat).
- Click the Ok button in the Import Sequence File window.
Important: If you attempt to import a sequence that has the same file name as a sequence already in My Files, you have the option to overwrite the existing file with the file being imported (Replace) or Rename the file being imported.
Note: If the imported file contains multiple sequences or invalid characters/syntax, an error message displays.
The imported sequence now appears on the Structures page.
Importing a Sequence File from the Edit Sequence Window
To import a sequence file:
- Click the Import icon in the Edit Sequence window.
- Click the Browse button in the Import Sequence File window.
- Select the sequence file on your computer, and then click the Open button. Note: Valid file formats are Plain (.txt), EMBL (.embl), GENBANK (.gb), FASTA (.fasta), and SwissProt (.dat).
- Click the Ok button in the Import Sequence File window.
Important: If you attempt to import a sequence that has the same file name as a sequence already in My Files, you have the option to overwrite the existing file with the file being imported (Replace) or Rename the file being imported.
- Any edits you made to the originally loaded sequence file are saved, and the imported sequence now appears in the Edit Sequence window, ready for editing, saving, downloading, or uploading.
Note: If the imported file contains multiple sequences or invalid characters/syntax, an error message displays.
The imported sequence file is also added to the Structures page.
