Derwent World Patents Index (WPINDEX/WPIDS/WPIX) records included in update 2025001 onwards will use the newly revised set of Manual Codes for 2025. The Manual Codes are updated at the start of each year to include new codes suggested by customers and by patent analysts at Clarivate.
For the 2025 revision, 41 new Manual Codes have been added, with 12 new CPI (Chemical Patents Index) codes and 29 new codes in the GMPI/EPI (General and Mechanical Patents Index and Electrical Engineering Patents Index) areas. The new codes allow efficient searching of emerging technologies in the DWPI databases. The 2025 revision also includes scope note changes for existing codes as needed.
Notable changes for 2025 include:
- Oligonucleotide and Polynucleotide-drug conjugate codes for nucleic-acid-drug conjugates – B04-Q04A/C04-Q04A and B04-Q04B/C04-Q04B, respectively
- Proteolysis targeting chimera to better cover targeted protein degradation (PROTACs) – B04-Q05 and C04-Q05
- Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists to reflect development activity around this specific class of peptide hormone – B14-D01E3
- Artificial Intelligence codes to cover AI uses such as:
- speech processing (T01-J16C3A)
- computer vision (T01-J16C3B)
- large language models (T01-J16C3C)
- predictive analytics/probabilistic reasoning (T01-J16C5)
- distributed AI (T01-J16D
- AI human-computer interfaces (T01-J16E)
- Artificial Intelligence codes to cover AI applications such as Agriculture, Industrial, Education, Business, Healthcare, Energy, Transportation, etc. – T01-J16P codes
- Military strategy and planning – W07-X09
- Telecommunications hybrid protocol and protocol timer codes – W01-A06F4 and W01-A06F6, respectively.
