To enable thesaurus-based searching of Japanese patent classifications in JPFULL, an FI thesaurus has been introduced, effective December 7, 2024. The FI thesaurus is based on the April 2024 revision of the FI classification scheme. It includes 190,000 file index terms.
The fully functional thesaurus, attached to the field /FCL, allows viewing of the definitions of the FI terms, display of their hierarchical relationships, etc. Leverage the availability of the FI thesaurus to expand your retrieval by including hierarchically broader FI terms in your searches.
Other STNext databases offering the FI thesaurus are:
- INPADOCDB and INPAFAMDB, which introduced the FI thesaurus earlier in 2024
- Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI), whose FI thesaurus version was recently updated to support searching in WPINDEX/WPIDS/WPIX
Beginning in 2025, the FI thesaurus will be updated twice a year in STN files.
