Autosuggest
When switched ON, the Autosuggest option displays dynamic suggestions that recommend file (database)/cluster names, display formats, L-numbers (if generated), or search terms:
-
File Names: If you enter any combination of the following commands that enter a file, the list will contain only file names/cluster names:
- fil, file
- b, bas, base
- ent, ente, enter
- beg, begi, begin
- cha, chan, chang, change
- cho, choo, choos, choose
-
Display Formats: If you enter any combination of the following commands that display a record, the list will contain valid display formats for that file:
- d, dis, disp, displ, displa, display
- t, typ, type
- sho, show
- see
-
L-Numbers: If you have generated L-numbers during your session, and then enter the search (S) command followed by "l" or "L," the list displays L-numbers:
- The L-numbers are suggested with a snippet of the query along with the number of answers.
- Autosuggestions will also work with a beginning parenthesis in order to search multiple L-numbers.
- The maximum number of L-number suggestions is 10. If there are more than 10 L-numbers, the last 10 display.
- If you enter a number after "l," the list automatically filters to display suggestions containing the number.
- If there are no L-numbers matching the characters entered, the suggestions will include terms from the lexicon thesaurus.
-
Search Terms: If you enter any combination of search/expand commands, then the list will contain a maximum of 10 suggested lexicon/thesaurus search terms ordered by frequency of the terms that are indexed by CAS:
- The list for search terms is database independent; the suggested terms will be the same regardless of the file you’re in.
- Hyphenated terms are suggested if they contain the entered term. For example, if you were to type “maleic aci” as a search term, the suggestions will include “maleic acid-styrene” not just “maleic acid.”
- The list will continue to match and display all words entered for a search term until there are no matches found, and then the list will reset. For example, when you type “Sulphuric ac” the list will contain only “Sulphuric acid,” but if you continue to type “Sulphuric acid u” the list will contain terms beginning with “u.”
- Here is a list of commands that trigger the search term autosuggest:
- s, ss, sea, sear, searc, search
- f, fin, find
- que, quer, query
- cre, crea, creat, create
- e, exp, expa, expand
- sca, scan
- roo, root
- nex, next
- mor, more
- nbr, nei, neig, neigh, neighb, neighbo, neighbor
Lexicon Matches
When switched ON, a Lexicon Matches box displays terms matching the search terms entered in the command line.
Clicking a matched term highlights it on the CAS Lexicon tab, where you can select synonyms and related/narrower terms to add to your query.
Classic Display
When switched ON, the Classic Display option streams contents much like STN Express or STN on the Web. Classic Display is available for the following databases:
- CA
- CAPLUS
- Registry
- CAS REACT
- USPATFULL
- USPAT2
When Classic Display is switched OFF, search results are displayed in an enhanced, easy-to-read format.
Upload Structures as Modifiable
When the Upload Structures as Modifiable option is switched ON, any structures uploaded will be modifiable using STN commands. Use this setting to enable the ability to edit the structures you upload at the command line.
Performance Enhancement (Beta)
This new setting is continuing to be developed and is in a beta introductory phase. Changes made to this setting will take effect on your next STNext log in.
When switched ON, the Performance Enhancement (Beta) option breaks content into pages for optimal use of browser memory. Each page has Next Page/Previous Page navigation that loads another page of content for viewing.
Note: All content will always be present in the session transcript.
Show Transcript Options Prompt at Logon
When the Show Transcript Options Prompt at Logon setting is switched ON, a Transcript Options window appears each time you logon to STNext:
-
Start a new Transcript: Selected by default, this option starts a new transcript with an editable transcript name after you click the Continue button.
-
Append an existing Transcript: This option prompts you to select a transcript after clicking the Continue button. Clicking a transcript name starts the session with the selected transcript.
Transcript Download/Format and Hit Highlighting
Prompt at Logoff/Logoff Hold
When enabled, the Prompt a Logoff/Logoff Hold option prompts you during a 10-second countdown to download the session transcript after logoff/logoff hold.
Transcript Format
If you choose to download the transcript, it will be in the format you specify under the Transcript Format option.
Document Hit Highlight Color
The selected Document Hit Highlight Color is used for highlighted hit terms displayed in the transcript download in the PDF, PDF (Compressed), RTF, and RTF (Compressed) formats.
Include Link Information Table
When enabled, the Include Link Information Table option adds a table in transcripts and reports at the end of each database entry display.
Included in the Link Information Table are all patent numbers for which National Patent Register or Claims Viewer links are available in the online session.
Example transcript: RTF file, EPFULL, BIB.M display format
For both transcripts and reports, clicking a link in the table opens a new browser tab and leads to the respective linked webpage.
Note: For the Table report format, select the Split subfields into columns option to include live links.
Query Summary File Download
Important: Logoff History (LHIST) must be switched ON to download a valid Query Summary file. If the Query Summary File Download setting is ON, STNext automatically switches the Logoff History (LHIST) setting ON at your next log in.
Prompt at Logoff/Logoff Hold
When enabled, the Prompt a Logoff/Logoff Hold option prompts you during a 10-second countdown to download the session Query Summary file after logoff/logoff hold:
- If Transcript Download is switched OFF, you will get a Download Query Summary confirmation window.
- If Transcript Download is switched ON, you will get a combined Download Transcript and Query Summary confirmation window. If you click Yes, both files will download.
Query Summary Format
You have the option to select either PDF or RTF as the format for the Query Summary file that you may download after a logoff/logoff hold; "- QSF" is appended to the end of the transcript name.
Structure Editor Toolbars
Note: Your selecting will be implemented in the current session and remembered for subsequent sessions.
